The UK born singer, Adele’s new album 25,
has continued to set earth shattering records on the Billboard charts,
as it closes its fifth week at No.1 on the Billboard charts. Thus,
officially becoming the biggest album of Christmas.
According to Nielsen SoundScan,
the company that began tracking album sales since 1991, 25 is not just
the first album ever to sell over three million copies in the first week
of its debut, the album has also sold over a million copies for its
second consecutive week last weekend.
Since its
release in late November, the album has also made a total of over seven
million in album sales, in addition to being No 1 for each consecutive
week after its release.
25
is Adele’s second No 1 album, following her 2011 release, 21 which saw a
re-emergence on the Billboard charts making last week its 82
non-consecutive week in the top 10.
Other albums
in the top 10 include, Justin Bieber’s Purpose which comes in at a not
so close second, with Chris Brown’s Royalty as the top debut album of
the week in third place.
However, despite the
incredible success of Adele’s 25 Album, fans will not get to see her
rake in all the big awards at the 2016 Grammys as the album did not
qualify to be considered for the 2016 Grammy nominations.
The Grammys have
an eligibility period that cuts off the last few months of the calendar
year, leading to winter releases being considered the following year.
The qualifying dates for the 2016 ceremony include releases dropped
between October 1, 2014 and September 30, 2015.
As
such, Adele’s 25 won’t be considered for a Grammy award until the next
one in 2017. This however does not mean fans will not get to see the
star at the award show. While no official announcement has been made,
come February, it is fairly certain that Adele will take the Grammy
stage for some awe dropping performance of some kind.
Even
as the news of Adele’s 25 ineligibility for the Grammys is
disappointing, with the album set on breaking records week after week,
the year is definitely ending on a good note for the artiste.
