Chelsea FC legend Didier Drogba has revealed why Fernando
Torres flopped at the London club following his £50m move from Liverpool
FC.
According to Drogba, Torres met 22 kings when he arrived the London
club in January 2011 as opposed to the two kings available at Liverpool
(himself and Steven Gerrard)
Drogba made the revelation in his new autobiography titled ‘Commitment’. Pages in the book were published by the Daily Mail UK.
He said: “With all due respect to Liverpool, at that club, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres had been the kings. At Chelsea, there were 22 kings.”
The Montreal Impact player also revealed how he came close to leaving the club in January of 2009 after a falling out with then boss Luis Felipe Scolari.
He said the boss had told him in a meeting he would be leaving and Inter Milan’s Adriano would be joining the club as part of a swap deal.
Drogba said: “When I left the meeting, the first thing I did was call Mr Abramovich and explain the situation via one of his assistants.’ But the player was categorically told: ‘No, you’re not going anywhere. Who said you were going?”
Drogba left Chelsea in the summer of 2015 after helping the club to another premier league title.

Chelsea are currently 16th on the premier
league table after twelve games. The team has eleven points and sit just
three points above the relegation zone. They welcome Norwich City to
Stamford Bridge in their next premier league game.
