A 2-1 home defeat in the opening fixture of this last-16 match-up has left the Blues needing to score two or more times in the AOK Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, a game which is free to view on Chelsea TV.
The stadium can hold 5,200 spectators and Davison, who faced Wolfsburg with Arsenal in 2013, is hoping to see every seat filled for the game.
‘When I last played there the game was in the same stadium that is used by the men’s team and I don’t know the exact attendance figure but I remember there being a lot of supporters there,’ she revealed.
‘German teams tend to attract big crowds and that’s the kind of thing I look forward to as a player – it doesn’t matter if it’s home or away, I love to play in front of a big crowd. All of our players are equipped to deal with that sort of thing.
‘That’s where we want women’s football to go. I watch a lot of men’s football and you can see the influence the crowds have on matches. They can really spur you on, and as a player I like that – a lot of the girls would say the same.’
Wolfsburg ended the Blues’ four-game winning streak in the first leg of the tie at Wheatsheaf Park, but Davison knows it is challenges like this which will spur the team on to bigger and better things.
‘With Chelsea, we know we should be in the Champions League and we’re more than happy to play against one of the best teams in Europe because we want to better ourselves’ she said. ‘We want to be the best.’
- Wolfsburg v Chelsea in the Women’s Champions League kicks off at 3pm UK time on Wednesday afternoon with Chelsea TV’s free-to-view coverage commencing at 2.45pm.
